Hiroshima...

Before my mom left Japan, we had the opportunity to go see Hiroshima while Brian and his team were on the road. It was an incredible experience, and I am so glad we made the trip up there. It was amazing to see the "A-Bomb dome," one of the only buildings to survive the bombing, it just took your breath away to see it and imagine what took place there. There was also a very informative museum, that was dedicated to the history of the town, the nuclear bomb and for promoting peace and putting an end to nuclear weapons. They had a lot of artifacts and personal effects from the time when the bomb went off and it was just so hard to look at it all; it made you cringe thinking about what all those people went through.

Getting to Hiroshima was quite the experience as well, we left our apartment at 9am and walked about 15 minutes with both kids in the stroller to the subway station. After figuring out how to buy tickets and finding which subway to get on, we headed to the main subway station in downtown Fukuoka to board the bullet train. We were basically sweating the whole time, trying to get around the busy subway with the double stroller, it was a little chaotic!! But we finally got on the bullet train, which was pretty cool, and fast, and were on it for just over an hour when we arrived in Hiroshima. Once there, we went outside and got a taxi to take us to Peace Park, which is where the museum and memorial are. We were really proud of ourselves for getting there without any problems!! We managed to figure it all out on our own, we were lucky!! The only hitch was on the way home, we accidentally got on the wrong train, which ended up going to the place we needed to go, it just took a little longer. And of course it was raining when we finally got off the subway around 4:30pm for our walk back to our apartment, but it felt good because we were so hot!! So needless to say, it was a long day, but well worth it!!! I am so glad I got to experience this day with my mom!

Austin absolutely exhausted on the way home from our trip to Hiroshima!! He and Brooke were quite the troopers, it was a really hot day and we were gone from 9am until 5pm, with no naps for the kids, well unless you count this one on the walk back home from the subway ;) Austin sure loved being on the bullet train though, he got such a kick out of it!!
