(Just trying to sneak in some more of those long posts I was telling you about from our time in Japan!!)
One of the downfalls about living in an apartment while in Japan was having no backyard to let the kids run around in. We were lucky to have a big park right next door to our complex, but it didn't have a whole lot of grass to just run around on. Not too far from where we lived though, was an elementary school with a huge grass lawn, surrounded by a track, a little playground, an old basketball hoop, and the kid's favorites, a little Koi pond and a rabbit house. Everyday, they would ask to go to the school and see the fish. Some days the school grounds were locked, and they would be so disappointed we couldn't get in, but when it was open, we took advantage of this big grassy area and let the kids run and play and enjoy being outdoors! Somedays they would just watch the fish, or play baseball, or shoot hoops, or run circles, or eat lunch, or blow bubbles, or just hang out...it became "our backyard."
It was a favorite spot of ours, and here's a bunch of pictures of the kids enjoying their time there over the 6 months we spent in Japan...

Wow, our poor kids look miserable and hot in those July pictures :) And to think we didn't think it was that hot of a summer... ha ha!!! What were we thinking?
